Forgotten Friends of Long Island, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that rescues the neediest of dogs and cats that are strays, abandoned, sick or awaiting euthanasia at pounds every year. These animals have been overlooked by both the public and other rescue groups.
We raise money to finance our rescue efforts through various fundraisers such as garage sales, newsletters, dinners, raffles, membership drives, community events and mailings. We are a volunteer run organization and 100% of any funds we receive go directly to the care of our rescues.
On Sunday, October 9th a fundraiser will be held. This is our 3rd annual, “Let the Paws do the Walkin’ Dog Walk/Fair”, and is sure to be a big event. There will be a huge turn out; the event includes other vendors, animal lovers, blessing of the animals, a walk around the lake, raffles, contests and more!
The goal of this event is to assist in raising the funds required to open an adoption center for our dogs. We rescue many canine friends; however, we must constantly try to acquire foster homes in order for the dogs to have a warm, loving place to rehabilitate following a shelter stay. This fundraising event will help us to achieve our dream. For more info visit www.forgottenfriendsoflongisland.org

Brooklyn: 2336 Linden Blvd, Brooklyn, NY 11208
Staten Island: 3139 Veterans Road West, Staten Island, NY 10309
The AC&C Cage Comforter Program enlists volunteer sewers to make small comforters and toys for the kittens, cats and small dogs in our care. Our animals love their comforters! Visit http://www.nycacc.org/
The comforters not only ease the stress of our homeless animals, they also help to ease the transition when the animals are adopted, because they take their comforters with them to their new homes. Also since they seem so happy lying on their little beds, they are even more irresistible and hopefully have a better chance of being adopted!
Because of the number of animals we care for each year many comforters are needed. We are looking for volunteer sewers as well as donations of material, batting and thread. You can also make a monetary donation earmarked specifically for this project. AC&C is a non-profit organization so your donation is tax-deductible, and you will receive a receipt for tax purposes.
Also: We are currently in need of: towels, blankets, canned kitten food i.e. Purina or Iams Pate, and cat litter. You can drop-off or mail your donation to any one of our Animal Care Centers.

Mayor's Alliance & the Veterinary Medical Association of NYC
Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project NYC
New York City Five Boroughs
Spaying or neutering makes good sense for animals as well as for their humans and guardians. By spaying or neutering your pet, you can:
•eliminate the chance of unwanted pregnancies
•help reduce the number of homeless cats and dogs
•help avoid some serious health problems (and their associated costs) later in your cat's or dog's life.
•help eliminate some problem behaviors.
Now New York City residents who have a valid Medicaid card can have their dogs and cats spayed or neutered for a special low price: $10 for cats and $20 for dogs.
The Mayor's Alliance and the Veterinary Medical Association of NYC have launched Maddie's® Spay/Neuter Project NYC. The project, made possible by a generous grant from Maddie's Fund, helps to reduce the number of homeless cats and dogs in NYC by decreasing the number of unwanted canine and feline pregnancies.
Anyone who lives within the five boroughs of New York City and has a valid Medicaid card can have up to a total of six cats or dogs (or a combination of cats/dogs totaling no more than six) spayed or neutered each year for a special low price at
participating veterinarians.
If you are qualified to take advantage of this low-cost offer, all you need to do is:
•locate a participating veterinarian from the list provided on the Mayor's Alliance web site.
•call the veterinarian and make an appointment for the surgery
•bring your valid Medicaid card and photo ID to the appointment (the veterinarian will photocopy the card).
•pay the veterinarian for the surgery: $10 for each cat, $20 for each dog, up to a total of six animals within a 12-month period.
These special low fees apply only to spay or neuter surgeries. If a pet requires additional care, such as pre-surgery testing of an older pet or other procedures, those costs will be in addition to the spay/neuter fees. The veterinarian will inform the owner/guardian prior to the surgery if additional costs will be incurred.
If you qualify or if someone you know qualifies for this important life-saving program, act now to take advantage of this opportunity.

A Prayer for the Animals
~An Official New York Week for the Animals event~
We close all AWUSA-International Weeks for the Animals with a prayer and/or moment of reflection. Join all those of us who would like to observe a moment of prayer for the precious animals. We are requesting prayers and/or meditation from 5-6 pm Eastern time on Sunday, October 9, 2011. This is a multi-faith observance.
We can offer prayers, poems and memorials to our animal or all animals wherever we are and also light a candle by doing so, if possible.
Wherever you are, if you can observe a moment for the animals who need us...that collective energy will surely grow and bring light to our cause to love, assist and help them from any and all suffering. For poems or additional inspiration, please visit
